2018 September Newsletter

Hi everyone and welcome to Studio 43 Dance! We are so excited to welcome our returning students and our new faces to the studio and we can’t wait to see how much our dancers progress over the year.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am Miss Maria, and I’ve been teaching for 23 years, 12 of which have been in Bonnyville and the Lakeland area. I have brought students all over the world to dance and my students have gone on to teach, perform and own their own studios. I had most recently been teaching at the Lyle Albert Victor Centre and last year, my husband Brian and I built the studio in our front yard. We have two sport loving boys, and a dog, her name is Astrid, and she is very friendly, but, to her sadness, she is not allowed in the studio.

Please read the whole Newsletter, as there is a lot of important information in it, and contact me if you have any questions.

Important dates this month (put them on your calendar)

Monday, September 10 – classes begin! (Some classes have a modified schedule for the first few weeks, due to class assessments and Choreo schedules, please check your emails shortly)

September 17-21 – Bring a friend to class week!

Friday, September 21 – used Dancewear shop and swap (see below for details)

Monday, September 24 – On Stage (Dancewear store from Edmonton) is coming, they will be carrying all Dancewear that you need

Studio communication

Always contact me if you have a question, chances are that someone also has the same one.

Text or call – 780-812-6235

Email – studio43dance@gmail.com

Remind App: https://www.remind.com/join/dbhfk4

The majority of our communication will be a mass email through Studio Director, mass text through the Remind App, or on the website (studio43dance.com). Please make sure to check your email on a regular basis, and always ask if you have any questions! Texts and emails will not be answered while I’m teaching, so don’t panic if you do not get an answer during class time.

Dancewear and Dresscode

I have a Dancewear store coming down from Edmonton (On Stage) on September 24. Until they come down, dancers may wear something comfortable to dance in (please wear your Dresscode things if they fit), with hair tied back in a bun (ponytail for hip hop).

We will be having a Shop and Swap on Friday, September 21 from 4:00-7:00 for used Dancewear. If you have anything to sell, it must be on the current dresscode to be accepted for sale (Dresscode will be sent out in a separate email). (For hygienic reasons, used tights will not be accepted for resale). Please clearly mark your item(s) with your name (separate, clear ziplock bags make this a lot easier), and how much you would like for them, and have them into Miss Maria by September 20. To streamline this process, when your items sell, a credit will be placed on your Studio Director account so Miss Maria doesn’t need to find you to give you your money.

Class placement

Students are more than welcome to try out classes they think they may like over the next two weeks, free of charge. Please also keep in mind that our teachers are going to be moving students around as they get to know them and find the classes that are best for them. The next two weeks are going to have temporary class times as we assess our students. We thank you for your patience for the next two weeks.

Extra fees (mandatory and optional)

Once everyone decides what classes they are in, costume, competition and choreography fees (for applicable classes) will be added to your bill at the end of September. For some classes, these are mandatory, and I don’t want you to be surprised when these get added to your bill.

Costume fees– All Performance, Competition and Intensive classes will have costume deposits. Best effort will be made to reuse some costumes (especially for Intensive programs, if possible). This is $80 for the deposit, per costume. Most costumes do come in under that amount, and if that is the case, a cheque will be issued to you for the difference when they arrive (we don’t have an exact amount due to duty, exchange, and shipping until they cross the border). For all Tiny and Kinder dancers, this will not be added to your bill until after January.

Competition fees – all Competition and Intensive classes have mandatory competition fees, Performance classes will be invited to attend our local festival if they choose. I will be sending the information out shortly to the Competitive and Intensive teams, as we will have to commit quickly for some competitions. Depending on the number of competitions attended (younger students usually attend less), competition fees are approx $50-$90 per group dance (solos and duets are higher) for 2-3 competitions. This year, I am offering the option for the Tiny and Kinder dancers to attend the out of town competitions, I will be sending that info in a separate email.

Choreography fees– the choreographers we have come in for Hip Hop and Contemporary are some of the best in the business, and they have brought these programs to the next level (all while keeping it age appropriate and fun for the students). They are highly sought after and we are very fortunate that they come out to Bonnyville for our dancers. Our hip hop dancers (except for Kinder hip hop) will have a $75 choreography fee added to their account to help cover the cost of these amazing guys. Try to make sure you make it (October 13 & 14) as there is a lot of choreography and they have so much to share with the students. Contemporary dancers, you will be emailed dates.

Account statements and fee payments

At any time, you can log into your Studio Director account and check your account balance. If you have any questions about your bill, please contact Miss Maria right away. If you have a dancer trying multiple classes for the next two weeks, please do not stress about the bill until you know what your dancer is taking.

We offer multiple payment options:

eTransfer (email: studio43dance@gmail.com, password: Dancing)

Cheque: make payable to: Studio 43 Dance

Cash: please label with your child’s name on it

Credit card: we will send you an invoice through PayPal, you do not need a PayPal account to do this.

If paying all tuition in full before September 30, you will receive 5% off your tuition (a credit will be applied to your account).

If paying monthly by cheque, divide the entire bill by 6, and postdate cheques for the first of every month (October, November, December, January, February, and March). All accounts must be paid in full to take costumes home and participate in competitions by March 10.

If paying by eTransfer, you may pay as you go, but all accounts must be paid in full to take costumes home and participate in competitions by March 10.

Please always ask if you have any questions, and we’re looking forward to a great season!

Miss Maria
